What is Platelet Rich Plasma?

Plasma is the clear portion of your blood that contain platelets, red blood cells, and white blood cells. Platelets in blood help stop bleeding from an injury. Besides containing clotting factors, the platelets release important signals that help start the healing process. PRP contains a concentrated amount of your platelets that release potent quantities of these signals to stimulate a robust healing response.

Using your own body to help rebuild damage caused by

injury or chronic wear and tear.

Why does it work?

The main purpose of PRP injections is to encourage healing to the targeted area from chronic or an acute injury. Platelets release over 30 natural active proteins and growth factors that enhance tissue regeneration and healing. The proteins send signals to other types of healing cells to migrate to the affected area and start the process of growing new tissue.

Who is it for?

If you suffer from conditions such as: Arthritis - Meniscus Tears - Achilles Tendonitis - Plantar Fasciitis - Rotator Cuff Tendonitis - Tennis Elbow - Golfers Elbow - Wounds that won't Heal

How is PRP preformed?

There are 3 separate steps to a PRP injection:

  • Two tablespoons of blood are drawn from your arm and placed in a centrifuge to separate the plasma (platelets) out.

  • The platelet rich plasma is pulled from your blood collection.

  • The plasma is then injected into the affected area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it hurt?

While each patient is different on how they handle pain, we try to maximize comfort and use Lidocaine/Marcaine and freeze spray to insert the needle to the affected area. Patients have reported little to no pain during the short time it takes to inject the PRP.

What is the cost of PRP?

The cost of PRP treatment is $500 Per Injection. This includes the blood draw, centrifuge and injection. Many times multiple injections are indicated, in which case there will be a discount added for additional injections needed.

Is this safe?

Research and clinical data show that PRP treatments are extremely safe with minimal risk for any adverse reaction or complication. Because the injected platelets are produced from your own body, there is no concern for rejection or disease transmission. There is a small risk of injection for any injection you may receive, but this is very rate. PRP does not have the risk of negative side effects that can occur with steroid injections or NSAIDs. We have a licensed PA who is highly experienced in the procedure.
